Players of the 2nd XI
Martyn Astin
Martyn has had a rest from captaincy for 7 seasons and his enthusiasm for the game and the pleasure to be gained from it seems to have been restored. He takes on the captaincy of the 2nd team this term and will expect to continue the successful run of the last few seasons. He will continue to lead from the front and push for the top run scorer title which has been his by right for as long as most of us can remember.
Jon Bamford
Talked a better game than he played last season. If Bamf can find his 2006 form and start the season well, there is no reason why he cannot bowl sides out when the openers have done their work.
If Jon is positive and committed then let the good times roll once again.
Chris Jones
If Chris can keep clear of injury and make 2 games a weekend when required we expect to see him continue to lead the bowling attack with more match winning performances. Add useful runs at times and masses of experience and this old hand remains a major player once again this season.
Liam Laprell
A good allround game with considerable experience now under his belt should mean that Liam will have a greater part to play in the achievements of the team. Look for a more consistent contribution to see if he can move up to the next level with his game.
Tony Milnes
Returning to the Royd after a long time away. Tiger brings enormous experience and ability to the side. Can bowl strike as well as tight and containing. Expect a bagful of wickets for this combatative cricketer. Useful runs can come at anytime. Captain is still trying to work out where he will field.
Danny Murgatroyd
Ability added to a capacity to watch and learn made Murgy the surprise package last season with the bat, making several good scores in the second half. If he chooses to take the opportunity that is there for him he will develop into a very good player. One to watch.
Luke Sutcliffe
Last season saw Luke add strength to his stroke making and produce some good scores as an opener. May be asked to fill a roll with the gloves this season. Expect Luke to be among the next crop of quality league cricketers to come through at Mytholmroyd.
